Devin North
Electric Bass, Upright Bass - South Location and Online

As a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in music business with a principal instrument of jazz bass, Devin North possesses a vast knowledge and passion for the field of music. He picked up upright bass and the bass guitar at age 11 and has since performed every genre from rock to jazz to folk to country to classical to musical theater to heavy metal and is regarded as one of Austin’s premier bass players. He has performed with acts such as Arielle, the Austin Symphony, Matt Gilmour, The Rewinders, Dave Sebree, The Aaron Clift Experiment, and numerous theater companies to name a few, and performs upward of 150 shows annually.

Devin has also worked for the Austin School of Music in nearly every capacity: beginning as an administrative assistant in 2016 and later in 2017 began taking on students for his own private studio in at the school, as well as serving as a regular instructor for the summer Rock Camp USA program. He grew up studying various instruments at the school as well as taking part in the summer rock camps, and so prides himself on being able to return and give back, teaching the programs that meant so much to him as a musician and a person.

Devin has played and taught nearly every genre under the sun, but specializes in classic rock, Motown, blues, jazz, and traditional country music, as well as music theory (both for the bass and for musicians in general). He aims to make his lessons fun and exciting for players of all skill levels and finds joy in demystifying the bass and music in general so that students have the skills necessary to actively push themselves in their own practice and performance. He also firmly believes that it’s never too late for an adult to dust off that instrument they bought back in high school and really develop a command over it either as a hobby or professionally!

Devin currently resides in his home town of Austin, Texas where he performs, records teaches and produces while off tour, and tours and records internationally with classic folk rock virtuoso Arielle.
