Jake Markman-Fox
Woodwind (Clarinet, Saxophone, Flute) and Piano - North
Jake Markman-Fox is a woodwind and piano instructor from Norman, Oklahoma who has been playing saxophone for the last 13 years. He received a Bachelor of Music from the University of Oklahoma where he studied with Dr. Jonathan Nichol and professor Jay Wilkinson. In college, he played baritone saxophone in the Vento Aureo Saxophone Quartet who were finalists in many prestigious national competitions. Jake has been teaching saxophone, clarinet, and piano lessons for the last 2 years since graduating from OU. He has also been busy playing alto and tenor saxophone in jazz shows as well as a couple recording sessions across the Oklahoma City metro.
Jake is trained in both jazz and classical traditions. He particularly likes working with his students on jazz improvisation. He finds that it unlocks a new sense of joy in his students when they learn they can communicate through music conversationally. Jake also specializes in teaching saxophone and clarinet audition material, repertoire, and technique. He has a guided but flexible plan that will help to overcome frustrating technical and tone roadblocks. Jake just moved to Austin this July and is excited to start building a studio with the Austin School of Music!
